A while back I discovered The Body Shop’s Fuji Green Tea Refreshingly Purifying Cleansing Hair Scrub. Yep, that’s a mouth full.😁 At first I was intruiged by the concept: why would anyone scrub their hair? And what does it exactly do? I had never used a hair scrub before, so I really wanted to see how it worked! I got a tester at one of the shops (I always have to get testers because of my eczema-prone scalp) and even before my tester was empty I already picked up a full jar in the shop. Ever since, I use it on a weekly basis and my hair has started feeling and looking so much better!

What is hair scrub?
Like you scrub the skin of your face every once in a while, a hair scrub does exactly that for your scalp. Your scalp is also skin, so it doesn’t make sense only scrubbing your face anyway. In my opinion the name ‘hair scrub’ isn’t right; ‘scalp scrub’ would have sounded better, but that doesn’t sound as fancy as ‘hair scrub’ of course.😉
How do you use it?
The Body Shop’s hair scrub is super easy to use! You simply take a spoonful of the product in the palm of your hand, mix it with some water until it becomes a little gel-ish and then apply it to your scalp. While working in circular motions you give your scalp a little scrubbing massage and when all of the grains are dissolved you rinse well.

What are the results of scalp scrubbing?
- Your hair feels squeaky clean
- Hair products will work better because there is no dirt to block the access to the hair
- Your hair will grow quicker because of the improved blood circulation after the massage
- The green tea will make your hair feel super refreshed
- The honey moisturises your hair
- Your hair will shine like never before
Do I have to combine shampoo and hair scrub?
According to The Body Shop’s website the scrub is actually a shampoo scrub, so you can use it instead of your regular shampoo. I discovered this while putting this blog post together, but even without reading about this I already used the scrub as a shampoo because my hair felt so clean. This way you won’t dry out your hair too much, preventing split ends as well.

As you miiiight notice I’m a big fan of the product!😃 My hair has improved so much, feels softer, looks healthier, … If I would run out of the product tomorrow morning, I would have bought it again by tomorrow evening. I would definitely recommend it!
Have you ever used a hair scrub before?

This is so awesome. I had no idea there was such a thing as a hair scrub.

You make a great point, 'scalp scrub' would have made such a better name for the product! I'd never heard of this before, but my hairdresser tells me I've been using too much conditioner and so perhaps I should give this a go?! Thanks for the recommendation! 🙂

I believe I came across a post of this on Instagram, but the person didn't explain what exactly it is. It makes sense that it's a scalp scrub, hair scrub had me really questioning how is that possible, lol! I'll have to look into this one. Thanks for sharing and I hope you're having a great week so far!

I haven't really seen it around except for in The body shop. I really wonder why tho!

Right?! It does sound fancy in my opinion 😉 You really should try it then! Your conditioner would catch better on your hair, so you would need to use less, I think 🙂
