I usually return from a holiday with a whole lot more in my suitcase than I started with: a piece of clothing, some food and… maps of the city/country, musuem entrance tickets, candy wraps or restaurant tickets. The clothes you can wear and the food you can eat, but the tickets and wraps just lie around doing nothing. I was searching for a way to keep them together in a cute way, without them lying in the way. Mixing the map of the city/country and a video tape box and you can easily store all of your little memories.
To make this travel keepsake box, you have to start with the two most important things: a video tape box with a plastic foil around it and the map of the city/country you’ve visited. You will also need a pair of scissors and a pencil.
You start by drawing the measurements of the video tape box on the map. Just lay the box on the map and go around it with the pencil.
Next, you cut piece of the map out. You’ll need to cut another +/- 0.3 cm off because otherwise it won’t fit in the plastic foil. I would suggest not to measure it, but just cut a bit off and fit it until it’s good.
Then you can write the name of the city or country you’ve visited on the map, right where the map is at the back of the video tape box.
But how do you know where the back of the box is? Just put the map in the foil, close the box, open it again and get the map out of the foil again. The map will be folded a bit, and that’s where the back of the box is.
I’ve used stickers to put “Amsterdam” on the back of this box, but you can also simply write it or cut out the letters of a newspaper. Or just leave it like that.
To finish: fill the box with all of your travel memories and your travel keepsake box is ready!
I’ve been making boxes of some of my travels and I just love how a collection of them looks!
Are you also such a sucker for travel memories? How do you store yours? 😀
